Is Coin Laundry worth it?

You may need to carry the an Ikea-bag filled with clothes in each hand down the stairwell. But in less than 2 hours you can have your clothes washed, dried and folded, which will be softer, more nice and in some cases cheaper than if it was done at home.

Better washing results in less time

Washing machines at home typically wash clothes within an hour and a half and some up to two hours. The washing machines down here perform the same task for 30-45 minutes. It also means less wear and tear on clothes.

Machines that respect the water - and your clothes.

The fact that the washing machine down here is faster and more efficient also means less water consumption. At Coin Laundry, the water is descaled, which means that the water and detergent penetrate faster and better into the clothes.

You only pay to wash.

According to the Danish Consumption Authority, there must be more than four in a family for it to be cheaper to use Coin Laundry . If you are not four in your family, consider not paying for machines, installation, repair plus water and electricity.

"I remember we played hide-and-seek down here when I was a kid"

- A resident nearby

The heyday of the coin laundromat was in the 60s and 70s, where you had to wash your cowboy pants, shirts and pillows before the washing machine became common property in Danish homes.

Rarely was one sock from another local resident was accidently brought home, which then ended up in the forgotten-box next time.

Laundry Møntvask has been a favorite backdrop for many local residents here in Vesterbro. "The large laundry was an ingenious place for play children to hide in a game of hide and seek," says one of our users, while folding a pair of t-shirts on the elongated folding table. A local clothing store for hand-sewn pajamas has even had photoshoots down here.

And then there are also a few who look at the machines' retro design and brown tiles

FAQ

Can I wash and dry duvets and other bedding?

If you are sure that the duvet / bedding can withstand being washed at that temperature, then it may well. It does not matter for the result if the machine becomes clogged.

Are there places to sit?

Yes.

Can you pay with MobilePay or card?

Yes- You can download our app (instructions in the laundry) and pay with MobilePay

Are there parking spaces?

Yes - there are ample parking spaces, but be sure to buy a parking ticket if you come with the vehicle.

How long does washing / centrifuge / drying take?

In total (average): 2 hours for wash, centrifuge, drying. Light fabrics, sheets, pillowcases, etc.: 30-40 min - Heavy fabrics, terry towels, cowboy fabric, etc.: 40-60 min. We recommend using the centrifuge as it removes most of the residual water after washing, which shortens the drying time by half. 15-20 min drying for light fabrics and 20-30 min for heavy.

How much can be in the machines

There are washing machines for 15 kg and 7 kg. However, we recommend filling the dryers with 7 kg (approximately one blue Ikea bag) to achieve the best drying.
